The last strike lasted 6 months and the writers settled for far less than they aske for initially.  This strike could very easily go on for 6 months or longer.

Current late night comedy shows (or talkshows) will feel the effects first as their content is dependent upon fresh content for each episode.  Soap operas and day time TV which is frequently filmed with only a weeks worth of episodes in reserve will feel the effects next.  Then traditional prime time television and lastly movies.

Heroes is among the list of shows that will be affected by this strike if it continues through December (only 4-6 weeks).
