I suspect that they will not dramatically change the story. Due to the level of details within the 7th book, I think we will see at least 20-30 minutes of them running around scared (as you say "lost and snippy").

The news has indicated that there will be a somewhat racey Harry-Hermoine scene in the movie (there is some evidence to suggest this is a replacement for the scene in the 7th book where Ron, Harry and Hermoine are under the influence of the necklace Horcux they find early on. I've not looked up the scene in the book yet, but it seemed more chaste in the book. Hollywood is going to make it less so.)

I also think that with the fact that the second part of book 7 will be released four months later that a cliff hanger might just be where they need to leave it. But, I think that them ending it while they're still lost is too early in the book. They obtain purpose sooner than half way through the book, and I think they'll probably end the first part after the destruction of the first Horcux.

It's too early to tell tho

Harry Potter Part 1 sounds like a tricky split-- I remember the first part of the book feeling very long, but I doubt that it'd be a good cutoff. All of the wandering around lost and snippy is going to be difficult to translate... and would make a horrible place to end the first half. Do you think there will be extra content in this one, or just less leaving stuff out than the big books required?
